VieVinum 2026
Organized by the National Wine Agency and the Embassy of Georgia to the Republic of Austria, 24 Georgian wine producers and family wineries participated in VieVinum, one of the largest international wine exhibitions in the region.
VieVinum is one of Austria’s leading international wine exhibitions, held since 1998. The event takes place biennially in Vienna at the historic Hofburg Palace and brings together wine producers, industry experts, trade professionals, and wine enthusiasts from wine-producing countries around the world.
Notably, Georgia participated in the exhibition for the first time this year and was featured as the “Special Guest Country.” As part of this designation, the Georgian side was provided with dedicated exhibition and tasting areas.
“The exhibition represents another important opportunity to promote Georgian wine and enhance its visibility both in Austria and across Europe. This format facilitates the exchange of wine cultures among different countries and contributes to strengthening international business ties,” said Dea Kerdzevadze, Head of the International Relations Department of the National Wine Agency.
At the official opening ceremony of the exhibition, welcome remarks were delivered by Alexandra Grasl-Hofmann, Founder and Organizer of VieVinum; Chris Yorke, Managing Director of Austrian Wine Marketing; Aleksandre Maisuradze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Austria; Johannes Schmuckenschlager, President of the Austrian Winegrowers’ Association; and Johannes Abentung, Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
“Wine diplomacy has been one of the most important forms of soft power for centuries, and it remains so today. It is particularly important to showcase Georgian wine culture in Austria - a country where traditions, culture, and high-quality winemaking are deeply valued,” said Aleksandre Maisuradze, Ambassador of Georgia to Austria.
As part of the exhibition, Irakli Cholobargia, representative of the National Wine Agency, delivered a presentation on the history, culture, and contemporary development of Georgian winemaking, followed by a guided tasting of Georgian wines.
Increasing the awareness of Georgian wine and promoting it in international markets remains one of the key priorities of the National Wine Agency. Since 2013, the Agency has been actively implementing marketing and promotional campaigns across various countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
