The prospect of the long-term development of the winemaking sector is determined by the quality of the grapes and the wine produced from them. The shaping of vineyards is currently underway, and the grower should know right now that during the harvest, if the state has to accept surplus grapes, the price will be directly linked to the quality of the grapes. Vines overloaded with fruit and non-compliant grapes harm the quality of the wine and, consequently, the future of the sector,” noted Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.

During the 2026 harvest, in the event of a surplus harvest, if the private sector does not express interest in purchasing grapes, the state has set the following prices for purchasing 1 kg of grapes: Grapes harvested from vine varieties permitted by the Law of GeorgiaOn Vine and Wine”: Sugar content exceeding 20% - 1.30 GEL; Sugar content from 17% to 20% - 80 tetri, Sugar content not exceeding 17% - 30 tetri; As for Saperavi: Sugar content exceeding 22% - 1.50 GEL, Sugar content from 17% to 22% - 90 tetri, Sugar content not exceeding 17% - 30 tetri.

"The decision to set a differentiated price increases the motivation for winegrowers to produce a higher quality harvest. We care about the healthy long-term development of the sector and also have a social responsibility towards those farmers whose income depends on the grape harvest. Taking this responsibility into account, we declare that grapes should not remain unsold, and considering the future of the sector, the grapes to be sold must definitely be of high quality," said Levan Mekhuzla.
