The grape harvest (Rtveli) is in full swing in Kakheti. As of October 13, up to 283,000 tons of grapes have already been processed in the region.
According to Aleksandre Koberidze, Deputy Head of the Vintage Coordination Headquarters, this year’s grape harvest exceeds last year’s yield by 30%.
“High yields and rainy weather, both in Kakheti and the Racha region, have reduced the favorable period for harvesting, which led to peak harvesting days and an increased flow of grape-loaded vehicles to wineries, especially during the most active phase of the harvest. In addition, grape delivery to wineries involves registration and specific technological procedures, which naturally require some time. Moreover, every winery has a daily processing capacity limit,” said Aleksandre Koberidze.
The Deputy Head of the Headquarters called on the population to obtain information from village representatives, receive the necessary certificates, and only then start harvesting and take grapes to the designated winery.
“Members of the Vintage Coordination Headquarters provide village representatives with daily information regarding the daily processing quotas of grapes and the addresses of receiving wineries. Based on this information, village representatives issue certificates to growers, indicating the specific winery and the time it can receive grapes. To reduce queues, winegrowers should follow this system. The Vintage Coordination Headquarters is fully mobilized, and not a single kilogram of grapes will remain uncollected,” stated Aleksandre Koberidze.
