During the past 24 hours, about 8,000 tons of grapes were processed in Kakheti
As of October 13, around 283,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti. Of the total amount processed by wine enterprises, approximately 145,000 tons are Rkatsiteli, 120,000 tons are Saperavi, and the remainder consists of various other grape varieties. During the past 24 hours alone, about 8,000 tons of grapes were processed in Kakheti, indicating the high intensity of the grape harvest process.
In Racha, specifically in the Ambrolauri municipality, 1,800 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli varieties have been processed. The forecasted harvest in Racha is around 2,000 tons.
At this stage, nearly 20,000 winegrowers and farmers have delivered their harvests in Kakheti and Racha, and 521 wineries are participating in the harvest process.
In the Racha region, in order to encourage private sector participation in the harvest and ensure the organized collection of the crop, the government has implemented a subsidy program. The subsidy will be provided to all companies that purchase and process no less than 3 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes harvested in the Khvanchkara microzone, and pay winegrowers at least 8 GEL per kilogram. The state subsidy amount for wine companies operating in the Racha-Lechkhumi region is 4 GEL per kilogram for both Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli varieties.
In the Kakheti region, no subsidies will be provided to private wine companies. According to the Government of Georgia, this year the state enterprise “Harvest Management Company” LLC will purchase surplus grapes at differentiated prices based on quality:
• Saperavi grapes harvested in Kakheti – 1.50 GEL per kg
• Other wine grape varieties permitted under the Law of Georgia on Vine and Wine – 1.20 GEL per kg
• Substandard, damaged, or diseased grapes – 1.00 GEL per kg.
